Ok, is a nutshell: These two guys are put in place to study the problems inside my province concerning accomodations toward minorities, which have included but are not exclusive to: Frosting some windows of a gym because there was a jewish school next door; the hijab in public funcions; tolerance; racism; the situation with newly arrived immigrants.
Now this report has been progressing all year, and now, 24 hours before it’s public release, everyone’s bitching about it.
Why?
Because some of the info was leaked.
The Gazette reported on this leaked information last Saturday and summed up the conclusions of the report.
What they expect the report to say is this: The french speaking majority of Quebec should adjust to normalise their relations to new arrivals of different faiths. The french speaking majority, which is unsure of itself, should “learn english, be nicer to muslims and should be more informed”.
Now, not everyone is like me, but I’ve had several internet fights with muslims in the last two years or so. Whenever I found a guy who supports beating his wife or believes men are superior to women BECAUSE THE QURAN SAYS SO, two things happen.
What I usually end up telling this person, is that I wish I was a professional hockey player, because then I could talk about that awsome Stanley Cup Final that’s on TV…
I have an opinion. I hold some information. I have seen so much disinformation and actual distractions from the basic problems (the Associated Press and Reuters are not trustworth) that I hear these conclusions (rumors of the actual conclusions, actually) and I’m afraid.
I’m afraid that Canada has fallen. I’m afraid that Quebec will be labeled racist and that apologists will come running to take over.
I’m afraid that the Pure Laine nation of Quebec has forgotten. Je me souviens should probably be erased from our license plates…
I think we’ve forgotten how we got here. I think we, just as Mark Steyn mentionned in the past, we have no more culture of our own because we’ve put multiculturalism in the front. I think immigrants who come here now HAVE NOTHING LEFT TO ASSIMILATE.
Because we’re tolerant.
Because we’re empty.
Myself, I’m fairly tolerant but I’m not empty. I remember the Plaines d’Abraham. I remember the English burning down our homes. I remember Louis Joseph Papineau. I remember what happened to the Acadians and I see how assimilated the Cajuns are today. I remember 98 years of British occupation without any contact with France. I remember all that.
Our religion prevailed. Our language prevailed. We survived. Let us never forget that.
That’s why, when you look at a building with both the Quebec flag and the Canadian flag, you have Quebec on top. Period. If you don’t understand that, you shouldn’t be here.
I’m sorry if this turned out to be a rant, but the presumed conclusions of this commission go against Bill 101, against the Commission de la Langue Française and ever single thing the french speaking majority has done right.
I hope I’m wrong. I hope this is NOT what this commission has worked so hard to achieve. If so, then it’s a big disappointment, not to mention a huge waste of taxpayer’s money.
Once upon a time, the majority ruled. Now, we may need a Human’s Rights Commission to help us because the majority has become a victim of multiculturalism.

Listen up people: As much as it pains me to support a communist dictatorship, you’re better off going to CUBA than Mexico.
A Canadian tourist wounded as her boyfriend was shot and killed in a Mexican resort city is still in Mexico and receiving consular service, Foreign Affairs officials told CBC News on Monday. Bouabal Bounthavorn, 29, was shot three times in the head by a lone gunman Thursday night in his room at Hotel Riu in Cabo San Lucas, according to police.
His girlfriend, 24-year-old Masha Heikali of Burnaby, B.C., was shot in the foot, authorities said. Foreign Affairs on Monday would not give any more information on her whereabouts or condition, citing the Privacy Act.
The Canadian Press reported Monday that Mexican police have placed Heikali in protective custody.
State police commander Enrique Wuilar said authorities have no leads or motive in the killing.
Look, we can spin this all day, but a democracy like Mexico is NOT the same as our democracy. Law and order rules over here, not so much over there.
And even if you ignore the wallet-friendly prices Cuba is offering, you can still acknowledge that Cuba has an excellent record on keeping tourists safe.
So Mexico is out if you ask me. I know they’re part of NAFTA and we should be working with them, but Mexico fails us every year. It fails the US every year. Nuff said.

After hearing the NDP’s criticism of Dion’s plan, Suzuki said: “I’m really shocked with the NDP with this. I thought that they had a very progressive environmental outlook.”
“To oppose (the carbon tax plan), its just nonsense. It’s certainly the way we got to go,” he said Sunday on CTV’s Question Period.
I’m hearing accusations here.
Progressive=Good, and NOT Progressive BAD.
More taxes=Good, less Taxes = BAD.
Putting fear in the hearts of Canadians=Good
Talking about the 15 000 years of global warming caused by the sun=BAD.
For all this misinformation and your agenda to create more taxes taken from our pockets for your own needs, here’s your award.
The Full Speed Ahead Award is, once again, handed over to David Suzuki. Congratulations, you managed to shoot down people on your own side for not agreeing with you across the board. Well done.

Senator John McCain (R) was on Saturday Night Live, doing a skit.
And he’s pretty good. Well done.

The Calgary Zoo is investigating after 40 cownose rays, part of a hands-on exhibit, died.
Calgary police were assisting with the investigation into the deaths. The rays began dying late Sunday, when 26 perished within an hour. Over the next three days, 14 more died.Initial tests on water from the fish’s tank came back normal. Toxicology results are expected this week. (source.)
Since viruses don’t often jump from one species to another, my uninformed theory is either foul play or bacteria. The exhibit was designed in a way for the public to be able to touch the animals.
“Fortunately, the three rays are still hanging in there so that’s good news,” zoo spokeswoman Laurie Herron said yesterday. “They’re still in pretty guarded condition at this point — I don’t think zookeepers feel they’re out of the woods yet.” (source.)
And since this was a pleasant environment where kids could actually learn something about rays, some activists come out of the woodwork to point their nasty fingers at someone…
And whether or not the demise of a school of sea creatures turns out to be an outside criminal act, it suggests such interactive displays are too vulnerable.
Either scenario lends ammunition to activists such as Zoocheck, which contends such setups are dangerous and frivolous.
Also in the activists’ bull’s-eye are the educational merits of exhibits such as the stingrays, which Laidlaw contends are more sizzle than steak.
“It’s basically the commercialization of wildlife where people can play with them … the education value is negligible at best and it’s a very confined, artificial environment,” says Laidlaw.
“We’ve challenged the zoo to provide empirical evidence this works educationally.”
I`d like to apologise to all who visit this blog. I haven’t been posting much. In fact, I was a bit depressed, certainly saturated from seeing more of the same in the news day after day.
Well here’s something I don’t see every day… President Bush and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak were arguing, and then Bush said out loud what my beef is with the Arab worlds…
The tension between the two allies underscored how Washington’s “freedom agenda” in the region had failed to gain traction.
Mr Bush admitted as much, taking an unusually strident tone with Arab leaders for discriminating against women and punishing dissidents.
“Too often in the Middle East, politics has consisted of one leader in power and the opposition in jail,” he said.
“The time has come for nations across the Middle East to abandon these practices and treat their people with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
That’s what I want to say. Unfortunately, “to hate Bush” is the “new black”, so very few will notice what Bush is doing over there.

CALGARY - Another cownose ray has died in the mysterious case that has wiped out the Calgary Zoo’s exhibit.
“We lost another ray Tuesday afternoon, unfortunately,” said zoo spokeswoman Laurie Herron.
“The other eight are holding in.”
The death toll is now at 35.
This means they have no exhibit. Or the public will come out in great numbers to see the “survivors”, which is not what the Calgary Zoo wanted.
Zookeepers found 26 of the cownose rays dead on Sunday. Then, eight more died on Monday morning. The rays were suffering from breathing problems and inflamed gills.
“It’s absolutely baffling and disturbing to have them all go so bad so quickly,” Ms. Herron said yesterday.
Only eight remain and they have been removed to a holding tank with oxygenated water to be monitored closely, she said.
The cause of death is still unknown.
