Polygamy in Ontario

I just saw this on Little Green Footballs, a Toronto Star article which mentions a woman living in the GTA (greater Toronto area) who discovered that her husband has married another woman.

“This is in our religion and nobody can force us to do anything against our religion,” he said. “If the laws of the country conflict with Islamic law, if one goes against the other, then I am going to follow Islamic law, simple as that.”

Those who condone the practice rarely let their views be known, and those who practise it themselves tend to do so in secret, making it difficult to record how many such marriages have taken place in the GTA. Equally hard to determine is how many polygamous families have immigrated to the country, despite a 2005 report commissioned by the federal Status of Women that tried to find out the extent of polygamy and its implications.

But conducting such unions in clear violation of Canadian law is wrong, according to Syed Mumtaz Ali, president of the Canadian Society of Muslims, who speaks frequently on polygamy issues.

“Muslims should not enter into polygamy while they are living in Canada, because the local Canadian law prevails. It overrules the Islamic law if there is a conflict between the two,” he said.

In a country who counts on immigration to survive, we’d think that a man having many wives and many more children would be a good thing.  Then again, the women and children don’t live “the good life”.

And consider this while you’re at it:  All the sons of this muslim polygamist will know for a fact that their Dad ignored Canadian law and got away with it.

Oh, dhimmi Canada, right?

    Gotta love it.

I love how Mr. Muslim association doesn’t try to say it is wrong, doesn’t say it is bad in any way, or try to lie about how it is not Islamically valid…Just that Canadian law takes precedence.

In a country that needs more people (and for the life of me, I don’t understand that) we should realize that more kids growing up without dads, more broken homes and more leeching off the taxpayers dime are not productive at all.

But hey, its not like you can get away with saying most shooters and scumbags come from impoverished immigrant homes right? Even tho race has nothing to do with it.

We make this place out to be the land of milk and honey. It ain’t. Too many immigrants ending up in ghettos, too much crime coming from their poverty.

It’s time to start saying no, unless we have a definate job and use for these people.

The “needs more people” concerns the low birthrate of educated Canadians. We need immigration to sustain our economy. The biggest problem we’re facing in Quebec is the Baby Boomer generation going into retirement and too few young adults to take over their jobs and pay for their pension.

Back in the 80’s, Meir Kahane was speaking against mixed marriages and getting a lot of flak for it. He was called a racist and a radical for supporting marriage between Jews and opposing Muslim men marrying Jewish women. He said “They are having 5 or 7 children. We are having abortions…”

David Suzuki even mentioned something about Population Control during an interview on CHOM FM the other day. His idea of getting overpopulation under control was education. He mentioned our low birth rates as the key to having fewer children, while develloping countries are having too many children. “Educate the women” he said. “Empower the women” he said.

I recorded that interview on Ted, Kim and Kemp’s morning show, figured I’d post it on Youtube some day. Too bad David Suzuki angers me so much, I don’t want to touch it.

Added: David Suzuki was talking about overpopulation on Earth, and specifically India where more education for women has helped bring down the birth rate.
