—-
Strange coincidence discovered this morning. We have 17 individuals from Toronto accused of plotting terror these days, and the very few newspapers who mention it seem to say that the proof is weak at best.
So too with a lengthy soliloquy given by one of the alleged masterminds at the ineptly organized training camp near Orillia. The Crown presents the speaker as a kind of inspirational jihadist leader. The excerpts from his videotaped speech, however, suggest an inarticulate bore.
He talks about God, enduring life’s trials and the need to defeat “Rome.” But there is nothing specific – no suggestion that buildings will be bombed or anyone killed. Instead, the shivering campers are encouraged to think positively, remember what’s important and keep “sucking up to your boss.”
Are these the words of an Al Qaeda fanatic? A rabid Protestant? A management consultant? From the evidence, it is hard to tell.
ROME?!

Last night, I was watching videos on Youtube where Robert Spencer was talking about terrorism and the history of muslim fighting in Europe. He clearly mentioned that the Prophet Mohamed invited Europe to convert during his lifetime, so the Crusades were not the starting point. Islam and Europe have been at war for generations.
(4:43)
Cardami said: The Prophet Mohamed was asked: What city will be conquered first, Constantinople or Rome?He answered: The city of Heraclies will be conquered first (that is Constantinople). The city of Heraclies was conquered in 1453. Rome remains, and we hope and believe that it too will be conquered. This means that Islam will return to Europe as a conqueror and victor after being expelled from it twice. Once from the south (from Andelusia) and once from the east (when it knocked at the door of Athenes).

Isn’t it interesting to see jihadists in Canada talking about conquering ROME? They wouldn’t be talking about the jihadis’ wider plan, now, would they?
In total, 17 suspects were arrested in a series of police raids in and around Toronto in June 2006, with one additional man picked up in a police operation two months later. Charges against three of the accused were later stayed.
Although the trial officially began Tuesday, the first witnesses are not expected to be called until May 27. Before then, defence lawyers will launch two constitutional challenges regarding the charges that were originally laid and wire taps that were used to gather evidence.
The accused, who was 18 at the time of his arrest and cannot be named under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, pleaded not guilty.
He is charged with participating in and contributing to the activity of a terrorist group.
Crown prosecutors said they will present evidence that proves he attended a training camp where he participated in military exercises and firearms training.
WTF?!
The Crown asked for a partial publication ban to prevent the media from linking evidence at the trial to the identities of other suspects.
Or, je vais l’appeller Gringo.
Incroyable.
À 18 ans, on a tous les droits.
Arthur C. Clark n’est plus…
Publié dans Random le March 25th, 2008
Clarke never showed much bitterness over his treatment, likely because (as usual) he could see farther down the road. For the rest of the 1900s — which ended with his receipt of a knighthood — and a bit into the 2000s, he would be Mr. 2001.

Quel malheur.
Pâques à Québec…
Publié dans Photos, Random le March 24th, 2008En voulez-vous de la neige?

Eh oui: Promesse tenu, record battu!

“It’s certainly exciting to play against players of this calibre,” said Cpl. Joanne Lyster, 26, a member of the military police who hails originally from Edmonton and is on her first tour in war-torn Kandahar province.
“This certainly wasn’t what I was expecting in Afghanistan.”
The troops changed up their teams for each period, and Lyster spent the game’s final 20 minutes in goal, facing shots from players like former Toronto Maple Leaf Mike Gartner, two-time Stanley Cup winner Mark Napier, tough guy Bob Probert and the fearsome Stu Grimson, known in his NHL fighting heyday as the “Grim Reaper.”
Also joining the NHL squad known as Team Canada were Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor, the guitar-and-vocals duo comprising the backbone of country-rock sensations Blue Rodeo, who performed for soldiers once the sun had gone down.
Others who made the trip included Montreal rocker Jonas Tomalty and Newfoundland songstress Lori Anna Reid and singer-songwriter Gregg Lawless, who sang the national anthem.
“It’s really amazing that these guys take the time, both the NHL players and Blue Rodeo, to come out here,” Lyster said. “I know it’s a really nice break for everyone, a distraction from what’s going on outside the wire.”
Indeed, it’s been a trying week for Canada in Afghanistan.
