Strange coincidence discovered this morning. We have 17 individuals from Toronto accused of plotting terror these days, and the very few newspapers who mention it seem to say that the proof is weak at best.
So too with a lengthy soliloquy given by one of the alleged masterminds at the ineptly organized training camp near Orillia. The Crown presents the speaker as a kind of inspirational jihadist leader. The excerpts from his videotaped speech, however, suggest an inarticulate bore.
He talks about God, enduring life’s trials and the need to defeat “Rome.” But there is nothing specific – no suggestion that buildings will be bombed or anyone killed. Instead, the shivering campers are encouraged to think positively, remember what’s important and keep “sucking up to your boss.”
Are these the words of an Al Qaeda fanatic? A rabid Protestant? A management consultant? From the evidence, it is hard to tell.
ROME?!

Last night, I was watching videos on Youtube where Robert Spencer was talking about terrorism and the history of muslim fighting in Europe. He clearly mentioned that the Prophet Mohamed invited Europe to convert during his lifetime, so the Crusades were not the starting point. Islam and Europe have been at war for generations.

Cardami said: The Prophet Mohamed was asked: What city will be conquered first, Constantinople or Rome?He answered: The city of Heraclies will be conquered first (that is Constantinople). The city of Heraclies was conquered in 1453. Rome remains, and we hope and believe that it too will be conquered. This means that Islam will return to Europe as a conqueror and victor after being expelled from it twice. Once from the south (from Andelusia) and once from the east (when it knocked at the door of Athenes).

Isn’t it interesting to see jihadists in Canada talking about conquering ROME? They wouldn’t be talking about the jihadis’ wider plan, now, would they?
