Prix En Avant Toute…”Un artist…”

The young art student behind the bomb hoax at the Royal Ontario Museum was released on bail today, as supporters applauded the ‘‘art’’ from the scion of one of Iceland’s most prominent families.
“It’s art because it makes us think,” said Daniel Epstein, a U of T student who decried the ‘‘witch hunt’ for his friend Thorarinn Jonsson, who has been charged with common nuisance and mischief after he left a mock pipe bomb at the ROM Wednesday night.
“I think that, to a certain extent, this kind of art is valuable,” said Mr. Epstein. He views it as a “statement against our culture of fear.”
Mr. Jonsson, a 24-year-old Ontario College of Art and Design student, comes from a high profile Icelandic family — his mother is a famous sculptor and his father has a television show called Independent People, said his lawyer, Robert Rotenberg.
“There is no evidence that he is any kind of ongoing danger, there is no evidence that he has any psychological problems. He’s a young artist,” said Mr. Rotenberg.
